'The View' Halloween episode stars cohost's Headless Horseman costume
The View's Halloween episode is about to send your wig — and entire head, actually — flying.
EW has an exclusive first look (above) at the cold open for the show's annual holiday installment, with this year's edition opening with a live horse crashing the program's studio set to tease a mystery cohost's costume as the legendary Headless Horseman from Washington Irvin's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
The clip begins with the Horseman traversing the streets of Manhattan while carrying a pumpkin, before the creature breaks into the show's studio and kicks back on its legs next to the set's audience risers.
The moment will serve as the opening for The View's Halloween episode, which will reveal which cohost — between Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, or Alyssa Farah Griffin — chose the Headless Horseman as her 2023 costume.

If we're going on clues dropped throughout the year, likely candidates include Goldberg — who previously took the moderator chair with decapitated Barbie heads inside her shoes — and Hostin, who proved she's fearless when it comes to injuring herself while performing death-defying stunts.
The overall theme of this year's edition, titled "When You Wish Upon a View," celebrates 100 years of Disney — and sees a few cohosts traveling to Disney World for pre-taped segments.
A staple of the morning TV circuit, The View's Halloween episode is a beloved seasonal treat every year. In 2022, the show made headlines for dressing a child as an Oscar with a red handprint on their face in reference to the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Academy Awards, while Griffin elicited audience laughter after the show doused her with a bucket of water as she recreated Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw credits sequence from Sex and the City.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Watch EW's exclusive sneak peek at the show's 2023 Halloween episode in the video above.
